THE BEACH
Sea Colony is home to a half mile private beach that is guarded daily from May 20- October 9. There are 6 lifeguard stands each numbered 1-6 with a different color, for easy recognition by all of our guests, big and small. All lifeguard stands have information boards posted on the back that provide guests with the daily beach and ocean conditions as well as any hazards. Additionally, rules are posted at the back of the beach at each dune crossover.
The Beach Patrol staff is headed by Captain David Griffith. Captain Griffith has been guarding the shores in Delaware, Maryland, and Florida for over 35 years and here at Sea Colony for 20 years. Our goal here at Sea Colony is to provide our owners and guests with the best experience possible and in order to achieve that, we make safety our number one priority.
We highly recommend that our guests read the rules posted and utilize the information on the back of the lifeguard stands.
The Beach Patrol staff is here to enhance our guests’ experience so we encourage patrons to ask questions. Additionally, Sea Colony’s beach is a United States Lifeguard Association (USLA) advanced certified beach which upholds higher training standards for the Beach Patrol. Most notably, this means all Beach Patrol guards obtain and maintain an Emergency Medical Responder certification.
The guarded beach schedule for 2017 is as follows:

May 20-June 17 10am-5:30pm
June 18- Sept. 4 10am-6pm
Sept. 5-October 9 10am-5:30pm

Beach Patrol
The Sea Colony Beach Patrol is led by Aquatics Manager and Beach Captain Dave Griffith. Working with him are 56 certified and experienced full and part time lifeguards who patrol the half-mile of sand and surf from Memorial Day weekend until early October.

Sea Colony's beach earned United States Lifesaving Association (USLA) certification by meeting or exceeding safety standards and training set forth by the USLA. Lifeguard duties include educating the public, warning swimmers and beachgoers of potential dangers, rescuing distressed swimmers, reuniting lost and found individuals and many additional responsibilities.

All members of the beach patrol are certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer. In addition, all officers are Delaware State First Responder Certified, and one officer is a Sussex County Paramedic.
